Yard drainage solu­tions are designed to redi­rect water from prob­lem areas where water may pool or col­lect and drainage is poor. Most leaky base­ments and struc­tur­al dam­age to foun­da­tions are gen­er­al­ly attrib­uted to an over­sat­u­ra­tion of soil that could have been pre­vent­ed with some type of sim­ple yard drainage. Yard drainage could be as sim­ple as gut­ter down­spout exten­sions to elab­o­rate sys­tems that tie into your city /​village’s storm sew­ers. As a gen­er­al rule of thumb, it is a great idea to have your down­spouts run at least 10 feet away from your foun­da­tion. It is also a good idea to avoid water dis­charg­ing onto or near any pave­ment, as it can cre­ate an unsafe con­di­tion and pos­si­bly result in injury.
